Originally from France, Eva Crystaltips started DJing in Edinburgh where she was based and rapidly joined some residencies at The Bongo Club and The Street Bar.

After 9 years in Scotland, she moved to Berlin in the summer of 2020. She’s now a resident DJ for Small Great Things, a label based in Berlin and organising monthly parties at Oxi Club.

With inspiration from 70s soul music, her eclectic selection mixes original songs, edits and remixes, blending contemporary sounds with nostalgia to take you on a kaleidoscopic journey through modern house beats with a pinch of disco, a touch of funk and groovy bass lines. Eva is a true purveyor of the boogie.

What’s your ideal breakfast?
Coffee, fresh fruits smoothie and poached eggs on toast.

What was the first record (or CD) you ever bought?
First CD/EP I bought with my own pocket money was Lou Bega ‘Mambo N° 5’ when I was 10y/o, it was a great one to bring to the birthday parties!

What’s your musical 'guilty pleasure'?
2000/2010s British Indie Rock

Does your alias have a backstory?
When looking for a DJ name, my friend and mentor Trendy Wendy mentioned ‘Crystal Tipps and Alistair’, a BBC cartoon from the 70s that she used to watch as a kid, the main character has bushy, curly hair, very similar to mine! I reminded her of her, she suggested to use this, I simplified it to Crystaltips and kept my first name too. Even if a lot of promoters still cannot spell it properly, it’s a fun name, and the colourful/trippy visual atmosphere of the cartoon reflects my vibes.

What’s the best thing you’ve ever got for free?
Digital files of unreleased or vinyl only tracks that producers send me.

What’s your current rotation of non-dance music?
‘Avec les Yeux’ by Fishbach

Where's your current favourite place(s) in the world (and why)?
Berlin, I’ve been wanting to live here since I first visited as a teenager in 2006, moving here 3 years ago was the best thing I ever did, there is pretty much everything I want or need, it’s still cheaper than any other major cities in Europe, I don’t see myself being anywhere else for now, I can fully be myself especially as a DJ. It sounds boring but that's true!

Any other passions besides music?
I make analog collages, and I own about 60 plants.

What’s something you’re proud of about yourself?
To have been able to make it into the Berlin clubbing scene in a short time, then join a label/collective (Small Great Things) and being involved in the organisation of our monthly parties (Small Great House), seeing how we are growing our community and how successful the parties are.

Describe your Earworm mix
It’s a condensed version of what I would play for a 2/3 hours set, I’m going through Disco, House and Balearic vibes.
